Electricity Remote Meter Reading Service for Distribution Network Operators
We provide an electricity remote meter reading service for distribution network operators that need to automatically collect, process and transmit electricity consumption and production data from a large number of metering points. The service is suitable for managing tens, hundreds or thousands of metering points.
The service is based on modern NB-IoT communication technology. NB-IoT uses a mobile network operator’s infrastructure for data transmission and, unlike PLC-based communication, does not depend on the characteristics of the power lines. This enables reliable remote meter reading even at sites where the existing electricity network infrastructure may make PLC communication difficult. We also offer long-term NB-IoT data plans, helping to keep communication costs predictable and at a reasonable level.
The electricity meters record measurement data at 15-minute intervals. As part of the service, data is automatically retrieved from the meters four times a day and transmitted to the server for processing and storage. The processed measurement data is automatically transmitted to Elering’s Estfeed Datahub. Depending on the customer’s requirements, the data can also be provided through other agreed channels.
In addition to electricity measurement data, the service enables the collection of additional network parameters and event information from the meters, including voltage and frequency readings. In the event of an unexpected loss of supply voltage, meters equipped with the relevant functionality can send a Last Gasp event notification indicating a power supply interruption.
The remote meter reading system used to provide the service operates on a cloud server, and the data is backed up periodically. This helps ensure the preservation of measurement data and enables the system to be restored in the event of a technical failure or other unexpected disruption.
To provide the service, we use Iskraemeco electricity meters, including models from the AM550, IE5 and IE7 series. For metering points at higher voltage levels, we use MT880 series electricity meters, depending on the metering system configuration.
The meters used comply with the metrological and technical requirements applicable to their intended use, while meters used for billing purposes comply with the relevant European Union requirements.
